3 Tips: How Agents Can Avoid Burnout at Work

Burnout is a serious problem in the workforce. This is especially true for those who are naturally ambitious, building their own business, and doing client-facing work every day. Any of those sound familiar? As a health insurance agent, you are likely to be working in a high-stakes and complex environment.

At JAR Insurance Services, we understand it is common to feel burnt out in this industry, which is why we are committed to helping our contracted agents avoid burnout and excel in their careers. In honor of Stress Awareness Month, we wanted to address work burnout and how to keep yourself on a path of professional fulfillment.

Here are three ways you can avoid burnout and continue to enjoy your work!

1. Prioritize self-care.

Sleep and exercise are crucial for maintaining good health and a positive outlook. These are usually the first things to do when you’re too busy or stressed. If you’re an entrepreneur working 60-plus hours per week, you may not always have time for eight hours of sleep or to work out every day, but adding just one hour of sleep a night or one or two workouts per week can mitigate feelings of burnout. Remember that your mental and physical health are essential for a successful career.

2. Reassess your priorities.

Burnout can happen when work is prioritized over personal responsibilities or hobbies. Take the time to think about and reset how you want to prioritize your time and mental efforts. One suggestion is to make a list of all the things that are important in your life: family, friends, health, relationships, hobbies, volunteering, etc. Once a week, pick one of these non-work items and spend the week deliberately giving the attention it deserves. This will help you maintain a healthy work-life balance.

3. Seek support.

Support should come from multiple sources, including family, friends, and people from work. Running a business can be challenging and delegating some of your responsibilities can help alleviate the pressure. At JAR Insurance Services, we provide our agents with support by handling administrative functions, managing legal requirements of certifications and credentials, compensating agents with their commissions, and providing marketing and sales support. Turning that all over to a trusted partner like JAR takes the burden off of your shoulders so you can focus on the bigger picture.

At JAR Insurance Services, our focus is providing agents with the coaching and resources they need to prosper in a competitive field. Prospering and thriving means being successful and loving what you do. Contact us if you are interested in working with us.

If you’re already a contracted agent, always feel free to reach out with questions or concerns. You are our priority! Don’t let burnout become a stumbling block on your way to success.
