ChatGPT Guide For Insurance Agents

Most of us are familiar with the concept of chatbots to streamline customer interactions and business processes. Yet, one of the most advanced chatbots just entered mainstream use. This is ChatGPT, a language model trained by OpenAI that has natural language processing capabilities.

Businesses that have been looking for ways to improve customer service have incorporated ChatGPT into their practices. ChatGPT can seamlessly communicate and provide personalized responses to inquiries.

Insurance agents specifically can benefit from using ChatGPT prompts. This industry is fast-paced, and agents are always looking for ways to save time with operations and marketing. Here’s a simplified guide on how to integrate ChatGPT into your processes:

How to get started with ChatGPT:

The first thing to know about ChatGPT is that for it to be useful, you must feed it essential information in the form of straightforward concepts. Essentially, this is how you will “train” ChatGPT how to engage and respond with accurate information. To do this, you will “chat” with the AI tool, starting with information about yourself and your agency.

After you have introduced yourself and your business, you can teach it about deeper concepts the Medicare Communications and Marketing Guidelines. For instance, you can teach it the TPMO disclaimer and when it needs to be used, or other mandatory disclaimers you need when you include your phone number or are promoting events.

Make sure that you are always reading over all the material produced by AI. Compliance remains your responsibility. Tools like Grammarly can help to double-check for plagiarism, spelling, and grammar.

Important Note: When using ChatGPT or similar tools, always ensure that you do not share or input any Protected Health Information (PHI) or Personally Identifiable Information (PII). Prioritize client privacy and adhere to all regulatory compliance standards.

Prompt types for ChatGPT:

1)     Fill-in-the-blank

Fill-in-the-blank structured prompts provide a framework for your request. To use this prompt, you start your request with a sentence that includes the blanks you want to fill in. For example, you might ask, “Can you provide me with a list of the top __________ for ________ in _________?” The blanks could be filled in with “marketing strategies,” “insurance agencies,” and “selling Medicare health plans,” respectively.

Once you’ve created this prompt, ChatGPT will generate a response that fills in the blanks based on the information you provided.

2)     Open-ended question

This is a more flexible prompt for ChatGPT. It allows you to provide more detail and context for your request and is useful when you’re looking for specific information. To use open-ended question prompts, you ask a question that provides some context for the information you’re wanting. For example, “Can you provide me with some advice on how to improve my customer retention rates?” This allows the AI to provide not only a tailored response but also advice and ideas relevant to your question.

3)    Multiple choice

To use this prompt with ChatGPT, simply ask a question that could have multiple possible options. For example, you might ask, “Which of the following marketing strategies is most effective for insurance agents selling health insurance plans? A) Social media advertising, B) Email marketing, or C) Direct mail?” Once you’ve provided your multiple-choice prompt, ChatGPT will generate a response based on the options you selected.

Best practices:

1.     Specify word count, and always put more than you need.

2.     Make sure your request is clear, concise, and no higher than an 8th-grade reading level.

3.     You can ask it to rewrite or rephrase its response.

4.     Integrate relevant keywords or phrases.

5.     Consider using a thesaurus to help change how you write the prompts.

6.     Be considerate of your verb choice.

7.     ChatGPT is excellent at recognizing intent. If you’re specific about what you want, the AI will provide it.

8.     Consider lists to help with ideas or topics to include. It will help the AI generate a relevant response.

9.     Copy and paste responses into Grammarly for plagiarism and always review for compliance.

10.  Keep expectations realistic. While advanced, it’s still a machine, not a human.

Mastering ChatGPT for your business:

Ensure that you are utilizing ChatGPT to complement rather than replace human interaction. While AI can be a great tool for answering inquiries, it should not replace all human interaction. And always make sure to double-check the AI’s work.
