Virginia Medicaid/CHIP Coverage

In the state of Virginia, 1,867,537 residents were enrolled in Medicaid/CHIP coverage at the start of 2022, a staggering increase in enrollment rates 99.64% higher than rates at the start of October 2013’s Marketplace Open Enrollment Period.1 Virginia has adopted strategies suggested by CMS to promote the enrollment of eligible residents in Medicaid and CHIP coverage, suggesting a promising future for agents working with these products in the state.1

Virginians receiving their health insurance coverage through these programs would likely benefit from working with an agent whose expertise they can trust to navigate the health care system and find a level of care they’d like to receive. According to a voluntary self-report from 2020, the care offered through the state’s Medicaid coverage meets 21 of 27 CMS quality of care measures.1 The incredible growing number of residents in Virginia enrolling in Medicaid would benefit from the expertise of — and offer reliable business for — knowledgeable agents who can guide them toward better care.
